Bruce Lee would have turned 75 this year. In honour of the martial arts expert, who rose to prominence through film, Hublot has unveiled a limited edition watch to benefit his foundation. Made in cooperation with the Bruce Lee Foundation, the "Spirit of Big Bang for Bruce Lee” was presented in Hong Kong during the “Legend Never Dies: Bruce Lee 75th anniversary Memorial Exhibition.”
Bruce Lee would have turned 75 this year. In honour of the martial arts expert, who rose to prominence through film, Hublot has unveiled a limited edition watch to benefit his foundation. Made in cooperation with the Bruce Lee Foundation, the “Spirit of Big Bang for Bruce Lee” was presented in Hong Kong during the “Legend Never Dies: Bruce Lee 75th anniversary Memorial Exhibition.”
Held from November 23rd to 29th, exhibition was divided into two themes, “Retrospective of Movies” and “Treasures of Bruce Lee,” the latter containing an original collection of Lee’s most iconic pieces, including his tang-style kung fu jacket, a genuine copy of the “Way of the Dragon” script, and the name card of Bruce Lee Martial Art Studio.
“Icon of the 20th century, and one of the most influential martial artists of all time, Bruce Lee’s life embodies the art of fusion. An east-west cultural fusion. Based on his personal martial arts philosophy, he broke the traditional boundaries of different martial art styles and created a new spirit: Jeet Kune Do. By joining hands with the Bruce Lee Foundation, Hublot has set up a memorial exhibition and created a watch as a tribute to the pioneer of an era, an immortal legend,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot.
Bruce Lee’s spirit is captured by Hublot in the “Spirit of Big Bang for Bruce Lee” watch, which features the « Mirror Bruce Lee », a cylindrical glass photo frame featuring Bruce Lee’s classic kung fu postures. This memorial piece for his 75th Anniversary was inspired by the dragon pattern on Bruce Lee’s desk. A tonneau-shape case in all-black micro blasted ceramic contains the in-house HUB4700, automatic winding skeletonized movement. The watch comes with a 50-hour power reserve, and is limited to 75 pieces worldwide. At 4:30, the date display window is visible, while the chronograph displays seconds at 9 o’clock, minutes at 3 o’clock and hours at 6 o’clock. Black and gold alligator leather sewn on natural rubber forms the unique strap of the watch, calling to mind the iconic colours of the legendary martial artist.
Bruce Lee is not the first martial arts expert to have inspired a Swiss watch brand. Richard Mille has unveiled not one, but two watches named after Jackie Chan.
