I wrote not too long ago about a piece that I had a particular soft spot for. And I was humbled to receive a letter from one of our readers explaining he had decided to add it to his collection since. Since the Masterpiece Gravity was introduced by Maurice Lacroix during Baselworld 2014, and we are only a few weeks away from visiting the brand once again this year, I thought it this would be a good time to revisit the watch.

As I have mentioned previously in my hands-on of the MP6118-SS001-110, Maurice Lacroix has made no secret of its intention to grow in the high-end segment, and is doing so with great effect through the Masterpiece line.
But the PVD-Coated Maurice Lacroix MP6118-PVB01-130 is a different take on the Masterpiece Gravity, and one that succeeds in creating a special piece. The darker tones of the watch make it much sportier than it’s counterpart, although mechanically it’s once again a showcase of the brand’s ability, featuring an all-silicon assortment, developed entirely in-house by the brand’s innovative wing.
The watch once again comes in a 43mm case, but this time the steel frame has been PVD-coated. The dial too looks different thanks to grand colimaçon decoration to the bridge with a combination of straight brushing, black gold treatment, sandblasted surfaces and polished bevelled edges.
Turn the watch over, and again we see some interesting changes. While the in-house Calibre ML230 makes another appearance, this time it features a Côtes de Genève and Grand colimaçon decoration on the bridges and rotor. Available at Harrods, it’s definitely worth a look.
