Breguet skeletonised tourbillon wristwatch in platinum, ref. 5395PT

Breguet is a Swiss watch manufacturer founded by Abraham-Louis Breguet in Paris in 1775, headquartered at L'Abbaye in the Vallee de Joux and owned by the Swatch Group since 1999. Its principal collections are the Classique, Tradition, Marine, Type XX, Reine de Naples and Heritage. Abraham-Louis Breguet patented the tourbillon in 1801 and delivered what is regarded as the first wristwatch in 1812 to Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. The guilloche dial, the blued-steel Breguet hand and the Breguet overcoil are all his inventions and remain industry standards.

Timely FAQs

Did Breguet invent the tourbillon?
Yes. Abraham-Louis Breguet was granted the tourbillon patent in 1801 as a way to average out the effect of gravity on a pocket watch balance held in one position. Every tourbillon made since descends from that patent.
What was the first wristwatch?
Breguet's No. 2639, delivered in 1812 to Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples - an oval repeater thermometer watch mounted on a wristlet of hair and gold thread. It predates the commonly cited early-1900s wristwatches by nearly a century.
What is a Breguet overcoil?
A hairspring whose outer coil is raised and curved inward so it breathes concentrically. It improves isochronism and is still used in high-end movements more than two centuries after Breguet devised it.
Where can I read Breguet reviews from a watch publication?
Knockoff Watches Wholesale has published more than 110 Breguet stories since 2006, including Tradition and Type XX launches, Reine de Naples releases and coverage of the maison's anniversary years.
