Antiquorum Auction Results Confirm Growing Secondary Market

Hot on the heels of record-breaking years at Christie’s and Sotheby’s, Antiquorum announced that their “Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces” fetched a total of $3,638,187. The auction was held September 18 at Antiquorum’s U.S. headquarters on Madison Avenue in New York.

A collection of 459 timepieces was auctioned off, attracting a total of 429 bidders. According to Antiquorum , there was enthusiastic bidding from individuals in China, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Greenland, and the United States.

The highlight of the auction was the sale of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2, No 04/75. The reversible limited edition pink gold watch with visible Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 174 with inclined two-cage multi-axis spherical tourbillon sold for $255,750.

Several other outstanding examples of modern limited edition wristwatches also attracted worldwide attention; the Greubel Forsey “Double Tourbillon 30 ° Vision,” No. 58 sold for $219,750; and the Hublot Ref. MP-02 Flying Tourbillon Titanium PVD Coated wristwatch achieved $147,750. Also not to be overlooked, the Audemars Piguet Ref. CCW1 Carbon Royal Oak Concept 2 brought $141,750.

And of course Patek Philippe timepieces continue to command high prices at auction. During Antiquorum’s sale the Patek Philippe Ref. 5070 Chronograph in yellow gold and the Patek Philippe Ref. 5940 Perpetual Calendar in yellow gold fetched $62,500. Meanwhile the Patek Philippe Ref. 3940 in platinum, a perpetual calendar with 24 hour and leap year indication, obtained $51,250.

And finally, highlighting the demand for enamel pieces, the Cartier Ref. 3269 Ronde Dragon cloisonné enamel in white gold with diamonds sold to a Chinese phone bidder for $68,750.
