Angelus Captures GPHG 2025 Chronograph Award with the Chronographe Télémètre

Angelus Captures Coveted Chronograph Award at GPHG 2025, marking a defining moment for the brand and reaffirming its mastery in mechanical watchmaking. The win shines a global spotlight on the Angelus Chronographe Télémètre, a beautifully crafted chronograph that blends vintage charm with modern precision.

Introduced as a rare limited edition, this model is offered in two stainless steel color variants—rose-bronze and grey-titanium, limited to just 25 pieces each—and an 18-carat yellow gold version capped at only 15 examples. Its scarcity alone captures the attention of collectors, but its deeper appeal lies in the watch’s distinctive aesthetic, engineering pedigree, and connection to Angelus’ rich horological heritage.

Angelus, established in 1891 in Le Locle by the Stolz brothers, earned early acclaim for its chronographs, alarm clocks, and minute repeaters. The Chronographe Télémètre continues this lineage, reviving the spirit of mid-century chronographs that shaped the brand’s identity. Sized at 37 mm, the watch embraces authentic vintage proportions with remarkable finesse. The fluid curves from lug to lug, the polished and twisted case flanks, and the refined 9.25 mm thickness give the watch a graceful presence that wears comfortably and elegantly.

The telemeter scale is at the heart of its design. Historically used to measure the distance between visible and audible events based on the speed of sound, the scale begins when the wearer sees an event and stops when the sound reaches them. While today it functions primarily as a nostalgic tribute to historical tool watches, it adds character, purpose and visual depth to the overall layout.

Three dial colors give the Chronographe Télémètre distinct personalities. The steel editions introduce a warm rose-bronze tone and a sleek grey reminiscent of titanium, while the gold edition showcases a crisp white-nickel dial. Each dial is executed with exquisite detail: a domed profile, a grained center, a satin-finished flange, and a diamond-polished border that subtly captures light. Snailed subdials complement the layout, while hour markers and numerals finished in either black rhodium or 3N gold complete the elegant aesthetic.

Powering the watch is the in-house A5000 calibre, a manual-winding movement that exemplifies Angelus’ ongoing commitment to mechanical artistry. This integrated mono-pusher chronograph operates at 3 Hz and incorporates a column wheel with a horizontal clutch—mirroring the technical configurations seen in historic chronographs from the 1940s through the 1970s. At just 4.20 mm thick, the movement fits the case with exacting precision. Its visual construction enhances its appeal through a two-tone finish featuring 3N gold-finished bridges and mainplate contrasted by palladium-coated chronograph components. Geneva stripes, circular graining, polished screws, and pronounced bevels reveal the level of craftsmanship visible through the sapphire exhibition back.

Completing the presentation are premium calfskin straps available in steel blue, anthracite grey, or sage green, each fitted with a pin buckle matching its case material. The watch also offers 3 bar water resistance and features a box sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, balancing durability with refined aesthetics.

The Chronographe Télémètre is distinguished not only by its technical precision but also by its soulful connection to Angelus’ history. Its proportions, movement architecture, finishing and limited production underscore its rarity and desirability. At a time when many chronographs lean toward oversized, mass-market appeal, Angelus delivers something far more thoughtful: a meticulously executed, historically rooted, collector-focused timepiece that honors the enduring artistry of mechanical watchmaking. The GPHG 2025 award solidifies what collectors already know—Angelus has created one of the most compelling chronographs of the modern era.
