Luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Hublot launched a limited-edition Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Mariano Rivera watch, honoring the legendary New York Yankees pitcher. To mark the launch, Hublot hosted an intimate dinner at American Cut Steakhouse in New York, where VIP guests celebrated the momentous occasion and the iconic baseball figure, who was also known as “the Sandman” during his career.
To celebrate the launch of its limited edition Classic Fusion watch honoring legendary NY Yankee pitcher Mariano Rivera, Hublot hosted a dinner.
“Hublot has long supported athletes and game changers from multiple disciplines in the world of sports,” began Jean-François Sberro, President of Hublot North America. “Partnering with Mariano Rivera, ‘the Sandman’ was a natural decision for the brand. Rivera redefined the game and what it means to be a closer, setting the bar higher with every pitch. It has been exciting to work with him during this process and we are thrilled to honor his career and celebrate his induction into the MLB Hall of Fame with this classic timepiece.”
During Dinner, Sberro presented the Hall-of-Famer with a limited-edition King Gold version of the watch, as well as the Titanium version for the Mariano Rivera Foundation—Rivera’s charity helping youth communities. Limited to 47 watches total, each timepiece includes a custom, Rivera-signed baseball mitt.
Partnering with local retailer TR Jewelers for the watch launch to instill the true and classic New York values in the watch, Rivera worked directly with the family-owned jewelry business and with Hublot to create the gorgeous timepiece. The signature Yankee blue coloring is featured in the ceramic bezel, with additional details to mark his incredible career, such as the number 42 set in stones at the 12 o’clock mark—Rivera’s jersey number retired by the Yankees six years ago—baseball stitching on the dial and even special counter hands in the shape of baseball bats. The strap—of course, in blue coloring with contrasting white stitching—once closed, revives images of Rivera standing on the mound with his hand tightly gripping the ball, preparing to close out a game; the wearer will almost be able to hear the “Enter Sandman” song that iconicity played whenever Rivera took to the field.
