A. Lange Söhne has released a new limited edition timepiece for the U.S. market and it comes with a couple of firsts for the German watch brand.

The U.S. limited edition Saxonia Annual Calendar in grey marks the first time a Lange timepiece features an outsized date with white numerals against a grey background. In addition, it’s the first time the rotor parts around the embossed A. Lange Söhne logo are plated in black rhodium.
Designed exclusively for the U.S. market, this new 38.5mm white-gold edition with grey dial is limited to 25 pieces and is only available at A. Lange Söhne U.S. boutiques in New York, Miami and Costa Mesa.
Outside of these updates, the Saxonia Annual Calendar remains true to its origins. In addition to the time, the timepiece indicates the date, month, day of the week and moon phase. The date needs to be advanced only once a year, when February transitions into March. The moon phase display can run without a correction for 122.6 years.
The self-winding SAX-0-MAT automatic caliber with a 46-hour power reserve features Lange’s patented Zero-Reset function. Pulling the crown causes the movement to stop with the second hand jumping to the zero position, making it easy to accurately set the time. Ample power is delivered by the 21k gold bidirectional winding rotor. Its platinum centrifugal mass adds extra inertia. As already mentioned, the rotor parts around the embossed A. Lange Söhne logo are plated in black rhodium. To bring back the golden appearance, a circular graining was added. It’s the first time this technique was used for a Lange rotor.
The grey silver dial provides a well-balanced, well-organized view of the all the indicators, which is a common trait for Lange timepieces. Rhodium-plated hands for the dial and three subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock complete the look. The watch’s appearance is finished with a blue alligator strap.
A sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the movement along with the well-known Lange finishes. All parts are individually decorated and polished by hand. The classic screw balance oscillates beneath the hand-engraved balance cock. The three-quarter plate is made of untreated German silver.
The U.S. limited edition Saxonia Annual Calendar in grey is priced at $54,500.
