Jaquet Droz is currently in London to showcase some of the brand’s most extraordinary historical timepieces throughout the month of September. The Swiss watchmaker is unveiling a retrospective in the Fine Watch Room inside Harrods, which contains special antique pocket watches.

Taking visitors from the past to the present, the exhibition also reveals the brand’s 2015 novelties to the British public, only a few months after they were presented during the Baselworld watch fair. The new collection includes the Grande Seconde Deadbeat, an elegant watch that hides a complication rarely found in a modern mechanical watch. Introduced during the Age of Enlightenment, the deadbeat or independent seconds complication features a ticking motion en lieu of the linear sweep that usually accompanies a high-end timepiece.

In recent years though, the tick has made a comeback, and Jaquet Droz has decided to pair its latest interpretation with its most revered collection, the Grande Seconde. Instantly recognizable for its figure eight layout – a staple of the brand – and stunning Grand Feu enamel dial, the Grande Seconde Deadbeat serves as the backdrop for one of the brand’s most complicated watches, featuring hours, minutes, date, and deadbeat seconds functions. Joining the Grande Seconde Deadbeat is the stunning Astrale Eclipse. While the dials appear similar, this beautiful calendar watch with moon-phase features a silvered opaline dial. The phases of the moon are indicated by a rare indication, a retrograde hand passing over a full moon to obscure it temporarily. Priced at £11,500.
