The Dubai Culture Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) in partnership with Ahmed Seddiqi Sons and Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), has announced the inauguration of Dubai Watch Week(DWW), the first and largest dedicated horology event, a journey of discovery into the world of fine watchmaking, will take place in Dubai from 18 until 22 October 2015.

Celebrating the history, dedication, innovation, achievements and master craftsmanship in the world of horology, DWW will be presented through a cultural and educational platform including the GPHG Exhibition, workshops and forums in addition to private and public events. The five-day event aims to engage both established and emerging watch collectors regionally and internationally in the Gulf’s largest dedicated watch event.

“The appetite for greater insight into the world of watchmaking continues to grow exponentially in the Middle East, which has become a key export market during the last several decades,” said Mr. Abdulhamied Seddiqi, Vice Chairman of Ahmed Seddiqi Sons. “Dubai Watch Week (DWW) is being established as a leading platform for education, debate and discovery into the world’s most innovative and covetable timepieces.”

Reflective of its desire to cultivate knowledge of high-end watches, DWW will also feature watch-making master classes conducted by some of the industry’s most respected watchmakers, an education and training initiative, a series of discussions by watchmaking experts, and a dynamic exhibition of must-see timepieces.  To foster careers in watchmaking among new university graduates, DWW will also include an internship and mentorship program.

“The GPHG is very pleased to be associated with the creation of the Dubai Watch Week” said Mister Carlo Lamprecht, president of the GPHG Foundation,  “It is a great tribute that Dubai and the entire Middle East pay to the watchmaking art, a flagship of the Swiss industry perpetuating the values of excellence, innovation and exceptional know-how, and to which we gave the title of 12th Art.”

The 12th art watchmaking is exemplified in this debut watch event. DDW testifies to the Gulf’s burgeoning market for high-end watches, collectors and an increase in the appreciation for the know-how and beauty of precision watchmaking.
