A few weeks ago, Montblanc announced the release of the Metamorphosis II at Watches and Wonders 2014. The new timepiece created a lot of interest, and after seeing it at SIAR 2014, we are finally able to show you what it looks like in person:

The new design comes four years after the launch of the brand’s first “morphing” concept, and it once again presents a partially retracting case which transforms the face of the dial and reveals a new function. The first face (above) shows the time of the day, while the second (below) displays a chronograph subdial. It’s a smart and playful concept, packaged in a sleek 18 carat rose gold case with hooded lugs and hand-guilloché dial.
One of the biggest question marks during the release of this timepiece was its size. At 52mm, it’s one of the larger timepieces on the market, even when you consider the demand for oversized watches. However, we found it to rest well on the wrist. It’s not a light watch by any means, but that’s not what the designers set out to achieve.
Instead, the Metamorphosis II is build around the impressive manufacture movement MB M 67.40, which Montblanc calls “one of the most complex” movements its ever made. That says a lot about a brand that was recently nominated four times at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, and its easy to imagine the Metamorphosis II will put the brand in contention next year as well.
The Montblanc Metamorphosis II is limited to 18 editions and is priced at $340,000 USD.
