Haute Jewelry: Highlights From Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Sale

For this week’s edition of Haute Jewelry we’re taking a close up look at the upcoming Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Sale. On April 16, Christie’s will kick off the spring jewelry auction season with the sale of 250 exceptional lots at their flagship in New York City’s Rockefeller Center.

This historic emerald and diamond brooch by Van Cleef Arpels is expected to fetch between $250,000 – $350,000. The central emerald in this brooch originally adorned the diadem of Marie-Louise, the second wife of Napoleon. The Emperor presented Marie-Louise the diadem as part of a matching set of jewelry, made by Etienne Nitot et Fils of Paris, on the occasion of their wedding in 1810. The diadem was later sold to Van Cleef Arpels, and in 1967 the manufacture turned it into this brooch for the great American philanthropist Sybil Harrington.

This oval-cut fancy intense yellow diamond ring by JAR (AKA Joel A. Rosenthal) is expected to fetch between $500,000 – $700,000. This 15.75 carat stunner was last seen at Christie’s Jewels of Hope Auction, which saw the sale of several stunning JAR creations from the collection of Mrs. Lily Safra.

This pair of diamond pendant earrings is expected to fetch between $550,000 – $650,000. Each earring features a detachable pear-shaped diamond, weighing approximately 5.51 and 5.36 carats, as well as a marquise-cut diamond and the variously-cut diamond cluster surmount. They are mounted in platinum.
