RJ-Romain Jerome Moon Orbiter Features Elements From Apollo 11

Luxury watchmaker RJ-Romain Jerome has unveiled the newest addition to its Moon-DNA collection. The Moon Orbiter is a flying tourbillon featuring a unique three-dimensional architecture.

RJ-Romain Jerome's new Moon Orbiter boasts some serious sci-fi cred, with a case featuring elements from Apollo 11 and a dial with actual moon dust...

The Moon Orbiter watch is a 49 mm wide, 45 mm long and 20 mm thick rectangle, and boasts some serious sci-fi credibility. The material of the case combines watchmaking steel with elements from Apollo 11, while the dial features actual moon dust. On the dial is an off-centered hours and minutes counter at 3 o’clock, with openworked red-lacquer hands. Another subdial between the lugs at 6 o’clock indicates the level of the 42-hour power reserve via a lacquered red cursor. According to the manufacture, each element was designed to highlight the flying tourbillon at 9 o’clock.

The flying tourbillon is maintained in orbit by a “3D” arm extending from the lower part of the movement which acts like a launch pad from which it sweeps over the dial. The movement is beautifully decorated, with an engraving of the stars on the satin-brushed cross-strut traverses and an entirely decorated back with a constellation motif. Five uniquely-shaped sapphire crystals fitted around the case provide a glimpse of the mechanical self-winding movement with oscillating weight and gear trains.

Only twenty-five pieces of the Moon Orbiter will be produced.
