The Haute Minute

Today is Throwback Thursday - a look back at some of the most iconic and influential timepieces that have hit the watch market in years past.

The 1972 Royal Oak A-series is today’s Throwback Thursday pick. This timepiece is what started the Audemars Piguet momentum of creating impressive, mechanical sport watches.

Introduced at The Basel Fair in 1972, the Royal Oak A-Series broke all the rules as far as the watch trends in 1972, which were following a much smaller sized timepiece. When Audemars Piguet released the 1972 Royal Oak A-Series, its steel case was 39 mm and featured an integrated steel bracelet, the 1972 Royal Oak A-Series certainly took a different approach in styling and design, and stood out from the other timepieces.

The Royal Oak may have been a bit ahead of its time in 1972, but it certainly caught on and led to the Audemars Piguet’s launch of the B-Series and C-Series in the years to follow.

41 years later, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak is one of the most recognizable and iconic timepieces available and continues to push the bar higher with each and every design and collection – a great Throwback to AP!
