Watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has teamed up with writing instrument specialist Visconti to create a classic communication tool that reflects the finest traditions of passion and craftsmanship with their specially created fountain pen.
Watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has teamed up with writing instrument specialist Visconti to create a classic communication tool that reflects the finest traditions of passion and craftsmanship with their specially created fountain pen.
Ulysse Nardin has been creating exclusive timepieces for more than 165 years. The manufacturer from Le Locle has recently teamed up with writing instrument specialist Visconti to create a fountain pen hewn from a block of deep Ulysse Nardin blue resin.
The resin sections alone require more than 20 steps to produce and there are metal parts made of 18K gold or .925 sterling silver, depending on preference. These parts are produced in Florence at the Visconti headquarters.
The pen’s patented mechanical parts offer many attractive features like the bayonet closure system with safety mechanism whereby the cap can be locked shut with just a quarter turn. A filling system is in place to provide maximum writing autonomy, which is said to be equivalent to approximately 10 ink cartridges. There is an additional system that prevents ink spillage during flights.
Unique in the world, the fountain pen also has the famous Visconti triple-channel ink feed in the same color as the resin, which allows for optimal ink flow to the nub.
Ulysse Nardin’s brand association with the sea is captured in the pen through tight, carefully hand-sewn net and the stylized anchor. The brand name and gold purity mark are hand-engraved. The clip is sculpted from a block of solid gold or silver and is inscribed with the pen’s serial number.
The fountain pen can be carried in a briefcase with the travel inkwell that comes with the pen so it can be refilled even on the go.
